7 April 2025
After three successful project phases, Hint Sustainability AB is taking over the responsibility for Hållbar Interiör. In 2025, the focus will be on marketing, education, and digital development – with the aim of strengthening the certification and establishing it firmly within the industry. A particular focus will be placed on using CO₂ as a key measure of sustainability.
With the conclusion of the Vinnova-funded project, Hållbar Interiör enters a new phase. As the main organization behind the HI certification, Hint Sustainability AB will lead the ongoing work to spread, manage, and develop the certification.
In 2025, the work will focus on three main areas:
Marketing and Network Building
Together with RISE, a wide-reaching marketing campaign is planned, including webinars, PR efforts, articles, participation in industry events, and an updated website.
The network built during the project – including interior architects, project managers, suppliers, procurement professionals, and researchers – will be maintained and further developed. A kickoff event in March 2025 will mark the beginning of the next phase for the HI network.
Education and Knowledge Sharing
Training will be a central part of the work ahead, both as a revenue model and as a means to increase awareness and build a broader user base. The focus includes:
- Developing new course materials
- Hosting training sessions for interior architects, procurement officers, and other key stakeholders
A key theme in upcoming educational efforts will be how to use CO₂ as a measurable indicator of sustainability, particularly in the planning and procurement of interior design projects.
IT Development and Digital Tools
The Hint platform will continue to evolve to make the HI certification process easier and more accessible. In 2025, the following features will be prioritized:
- Templates and example documents to support users
- Standardized data for weight and CO₂ impact of typical furnishings
- Integrations with inventory apps to streamline the process
For both the HI certification and the Hint platform, the shift toward CO₂ as a primary sustainability metric is a significant step toward greater transparency and measurability.
Criteria Development and Quality Assurance
An external criteria council has been established to ensure the HI certification remains relevant and up to date. The council’s responsibilities include:
- Ongoing monitoring and expert reviews
- Alignment with SS-ISO 14024 (Type I environmental labeling)
- Regular updates to reflect new research and evolving industry needs
The council includes representatives from architectural firms, property owners, academia, suppliers, certification bodies, and industry organizations. Hint Sustainability AB will coordinate the council’s work to ensure that the certification continues to evolve in close collaboration with the sector.
