HI once again participated in seminars at the Stockholm Furniture Fair. SFF is the key meeting place for everyone working with interiors in Sweden and neighboring countries. It is at the fair in Älvsjö and various locations around Stockholm where the latest trends and inspiring collaborations are showcased.
Stockholm Furniture Fair in Älvsjö has undergone changes, with several major Swedish furniture manufacturers leaving, while smaller players and new exhibitions have taken their place. One of the fair’s most exciting features is designer Emma Olbers’ exhibition Material Dialogues, a 500-square-meter space featuring an information area, its own café, and a stage for industry seminars in collaboration with TMF.
Olbers explores how design can be created with consideration for the nine planetary boundaries defined by researcher Johan Rockström. The exhibition highlights climate-smart materials.
On the Industry Talks stage, organized by the Swedish Federation of Wood and Furniture (TMF), Hållbar Interiör (HI) contributed with the seminar “Hållbar Interiör – The Key to Sustainable Spaces of the Future.”
Sophia Engström from RISE explained what Hållbar Interiör entails and why it is crucial—she emphasized the need to make visible the climate impact of a building’s interior elements, which are often more significant than those traditionally considered in carbon footprint calculations. She also highlighted that Hållbar Interiör largely focuses on promoting reuse and circular models, pointing out that Sweden lags behind the rest of Europe in circularity and reuse.
Martin Pollak from Ogeborg then shared his experiences of HI-certifying their premises in Stockholm, while Robin Ljungar from TMF described how the certification affects their members through the classification of furnishings within the HI framework.
