By obtaining HI certification for your space, you receive a certificate that confirms your company's long-term sustainability efforts and provides a management document that can be communicated both internally and externally.

The HI certification is proof that your organization's spaces contribute to a better environment.

Four Steps to HI Certification:

  1. Learn More About HI Certification!
All the information about the environmental criteria that must be met is available in our Criteria Document. You can also get trained by taking a short or long course. Alternatively, hire an HI coach who can quickly help you get started.
  2. Register Interest with RISE!
The certification body, RISE (the Research Institute of Sweden), conducts the verification. You need to register your space via this [link].
  3. Simplify the Verification Process!
If you wish, you can use the digital tool, Hint. Hint is an app that simplifies data management. It allows you to easily collect and extract information on all aspects of HI’s environmental criteria. Hint also contains a direct link to RISE, ensuring that all necessary information for verification can be easily transferred.
  4. Collect Data!
You can also use your organization’s own management routines or apps instead of Hint, as long as the information can be provided correctly. Before HI certification, you need to coordinate with RISE on how the information will be transferred.

What Information Do I Need to Know About My Space?

When you want to apply for HI certification, you need to collect some data about the space, such as its scope, ownership, and energy consumption. You need to perform a needs analysis of the space’s usage and possible alternative layouts. You need to date materials and fixed furnishings, as well as doors and technical equipment. If it doesn’t already exist, you need to conduct an inventory of all loose furnishings. You also need to demonstrate systematic management for maintenance, waste, and transportation. In brief, you need to:

  • Describe the scope, including the space, its area, organization, and expected use.
  • Provide information on the space’s electricity supply.
  • Conduct a needs analysis for function and layout.
  • Detail utilization.
  • Assess the adaptability of the space.
  • Outline the transportation of goods, services, and personnel.
  • Specify procurement policies.
  • Detail waste management.
  • Include information on interior surfaces, glass partitions, doors, and fixed furnishings.
  • Provide details on fixed lighting, including energy performance.
  • List electronic equipment and appliances.
  • Include an inventory list.
  • Provide a management plan for inventory, where each product falls into one of four criteria (link to environmental criteria/criteria document).
