Measuring the climate impact of furniture and interiors has long been a blind spot in the construction sector’s climate efforts. That’s about to change – with Hållbar Interiör (HI) leading the way.
In a newly submitted project proposal to Shift Sweden, we aim – together with partners including Prodikt, Soeco, and Svenska Kraftnät – to further develop the HI certification to version 2.0, where climate impact in terms of CO₂ equivalents becomes a core criterion.
What makes this initiative unique is the inclusion of a new, open database for CO₂ data related to interior components – both new and reused. Prodikt is responsible for building the database, based on real product data and generic values.
“This is the first time we can offer an integrated system for climate governance in interior decisions – where certification and data go hand in hand.”
At the same time, Hint – the digital tool that guides users through the HI process – will be further developed to integrate climate data directly into the decision flow. The goal is to support tenants and architects in making climate-smart choices in the early stages, where impact is greatest.
The project, currently awaiting funding approval, addresses key societal needs:
• Climate impact from interiors becomes visible and comparable
• Reused furniture can receive credible climate certification
• A new infrastructure for circular decision-making will be piloted and tested
Stay tuned – more updates to come as the project moves forward!
