How climate-smart are our interior fit-outs really? And how well prepared are we for increasing requirements for climate data covering interiors, furniture and fixed interior elements?
On 26 January 2026, Hållbar Interiör, together with Makajo, Prodikt and RISE, invites you to a breakfast seminar in Malmö. During the morning, you will be introduced to Sweden’s first environmental certification for premises, gain practical tools for working with climate data in interior projects, and get an up-to-date overview of current research on reuse and circular interiors.
The HI certification – a new way to set requirements for sustainable premises
The main focus of the seminar is Hållbar Interiör, Sweden’s first environmental certification that assesses the entire premises, with a particular focus on interiors, inventories and organisational practices. The certification is already being applied in real-world projects and provides a shared framework for how reuse, long service life and reduced climate impact can be specified, measured and followed up in interior fit-out projects.
We will demonstrate how the HI certification works in practice, what kinds of early-stage decisions it supports, and how it can be used by architects, property owners and tenants to steer projects away from unnecessary demolition and new purchases.
Climate data for furniture and interiors – a decision-support tool in high demand
There is a growing demand in the industry for comparable and reliable climate data for furniture and interiors. Together with Prodikt, we will present how an open climate database for furniture is being developed within a Vinnova-funded project, and why this database is an important complement to the HI certification.
The session will explore how climate data can be used in design, procurement and dialogue between clients, consultants and suppliers, and how the database can help make climate-smart choices easier and more transparent.
Research at RISE: reuse, circularity and premises
As the concluding part of the programme, RISE will provide an overview of current research projects related to reuse, circularity, furniture and premises. Robert Boyer, researcher at RISE, will present a selection of ongoing and recently completed projects and relate them to the practical challenges faced in today’s interior and real estate projects.
The focus is on what current research shows, where knowledge gaps remain, and how research results can be translated into concrete practices within the industry.
