The HI labelling process begins with the organisation deciding which premises are to be included and examining how the criteria are currently addressed. By involving the relevant functions, assessing the current situation and identifying the necessary supporting information, the organisation creates a clear basis for the continued work and forthcoming verification.
The HI label can be applied to one or more existing premises over which the organisation has control. The process covers both the organisation’s governance and the physical content of the premises. Depending on how responsibilities are allocated, the property owner may also need to provide information about energy, technical systems and alterations made to the premises.
Begin by defining the scope and assessing the current situation
The first step is to determine which premises and which organisation are to be included in the HI label. The organisation must have control over the premises and be able to provide basic information such as the address, premises area, function and building identification.
The current situation is then reviewed. The purpose is to identify which criteria the organisation already meets, what supporting information is available and where working practices or documentation may need to be developed.

Several functions within the organisation may need to be involved
The HI labelling process covers both the organisation’s working practices and the physical conditions of the premises. Several functions may therefore need to be involved, including those responsible for premises, sustainability, purchasing, furnishings and operational planning.
The property owner may also need to provide information in areas where the property owner has responsibility or control. This may include information about the electricity supply, technical systems, fixed interiors and alterations previously carried out in the premises.
Supporting information is collected and the process is documented
The organisation must be able to demonstrate how the criteria are met through relevant and traceable documentation. The supporting information may include policies and procedures, analyses of the organisation’s premises requirements and use, inventories of furnishings, and information about energy, alterations to the premises and furnishings.
Once the organisation’s work and documentation are complete, the supporting information is reviewed by an independent verification body. The verification includes a document review and site visits at the premises included. Following successful verification, the organisation receives a verification statement and the right to use the Hållbar Interiör label.
