As we approach the summer break, I would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone who has contributed in different ways to the development of Hållbar Interiör over the past year.
It has been an intensive year, but above all a year that has clearly demonstrated that the climate impact of interiors is becoming an increasingly important topic within the construction and real estate sector.
Throughout the year, we have had the privilege of engaging with property owners, tenants, interior architects, suppliers, researchers and public authorities. Although perspectives differ, one common theme has emerged from these conversations: there is a growing recognition of the need for shared methods and common frameworks to reduce the climate impact of workplaces and tenant fit outs.
One important milestone is that Version 2.0 of the HI Certification is now ready for public consultation. This new version represents a significant step forward. It introduces climate calculations for fixed interior elements, expands climate calculations to include loose furniture and furnishings, differentiates reference service lives for different building components, and restructures the criteria to make them clearer and easier to apply in practice. We look forward to receiving valuable feedback during the consultation period.
We are also seeing growing interest in HI across the industry. During the past year, additional HI Coaches have completed their training, bringing the network to around 50 certified coaches across Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö. They will play an important role in helping organisations translate sustainability ambitions into practical action.
At the same time, we continue to strengthen our collaborations. We have established an exciting partnership with the Norwegian network Nr. 17 and submitted a research proposal together with Lund University to develop methods for measuring the climate impact of tenant fit outs. We are also seeing increasing interest from property owners who want to use HI as a strategic tool already during the leasing process through the HI Ready concept.
This year’s Almedalen Week once again confirmed that sustainability remains high on the industry’s agenda. At the same time, it became clear that interiors still receive too little attention in many of these discussions. If we are serious about reducing the climate impact of buildings, we must also focus on the decisions made when workplaces are renovated, adapted and used throughout their lifetime.
We also see that developments across the industry are moving in the same direction. Climate requirements continue to become more ambitious, and everything points towards the climate impact of interiors becoming increasingly important in the years ahead. This reinforces our belief that Hållbar Interiör addresses an important need.
Now it is time for a well deserved summer break before our work continues this autumn. We look forward to the consultation process for Version 2.0, the continued development of HI Ready, new training programmes and new collaborations that will help make sustainable interiors a natural part of the transition towards a more sustainable construction and real estate sector.
